If you wish to imagine social reality, several concepts help: a possibility boundary (which shows the limit of what can be achieved by any action, policy or promoted meme) and within it a taboo boundary (which demarcates acceptable human interaction); and then the element of fantasy, in which we imagine something different. Now, some of our fantasies imagine impossible results, which means any implementation of the ideological fantasy will yield only a shadow upon reality, which may vary significantly from the fantasy.

Further boundaries could be drawn (preference boundaries and spectra; actual practice boundaries, etc), but this gives a sketch of a distinct element of social reality that rarely receives much careful thought.
